Cranberry Orange Bourbon Smash

Cranberry orange bourbon smash is a bright, minty cocktail made by muddling fresh orange and shaking bourbon with cranberry and lemon juice. Served over crushed ice with a splash of club soda, it’s citrusy, lightly fizzy, and easy to make in a shaker.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange small; cut into 2 wedges and 1 wheel
  • 6 mint leaves fresh
  • 1 mint sprig small; for garnish
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz cranberry juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ice cubes and crushed ice as needed
  • 1 oz club soda

Equipment

  • 1 cocktail shaker
  • 1 rocks glass

Method

  1. In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the orange wedges, mint leaves, and simple syrup until the orange releases its juice and the mint is fragrant.
  2. Add the bourbon, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and ice cubes; cover and shake until well chilled, about 10 seconds.
  3. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice.
  4. Strain the drink into the glass and top with the club soda.
  5. Garnish with the orange wheel and mint sprig.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a fresher mint flavor, muddle gently rather than crushing the leaves. The drink is best served immediately; you can refrigerate the bourbon, cranberry, and lemon juice base without ice or club soda for up to 1 day. Do not freeze.
