Method
Prepare the filling
- Heat the oven to 350°F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken, green beans, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, and black pepper.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.
Prepare the stuffing and bake
- Bring the butter and water to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Remove the pan from the heat.
- Stir in the stuffing mix.
- Cover and let stand for 5 minutes.
- Spoon the stuffing evenly over the chicken mixture.
- Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for 10–15 minutes, until bubbling at the edges, golden on top, and at least 165°F in the center.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a golden topping, uncover the casserole for the full final bake and check that the center reaches at least 165°F. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3–4 days; freeze for up to 3 months. Plain Greek yogurt can replace the sour cream for a lighter option.
