Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups low-sodium turkey broth
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 3-quart saucepan

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, whisking constantly, until smooth and bubbling.
  3. Gradually whisk in the turkey broth until smooth.
  4. Bring the gravy to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 to 8 minutes, whisking often, until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  6. Stir in the salt and pepper.

Notes

Whisk constantly while cooking the flour to keep the gravy smooth. Refrigerate leftovers for 3 to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. For a dairy-free option, use a plant-based butter substitute.
